Illustrating stuff and myself since 1992

colourful views - greetings from izola

digital work

This series is the result of a fruitful collaboration between myself and the Izola Tourist Centre, the organisation that commissioned this series.

The concept behind this project was to create a collection of images that would later be transformed into merchandise, including t-shirts, postcards, and tote bags. Witnessing the realisation of these products fills me with immense pride and joy.

Crafting images of Izola holds a special place in my heart, as it is the town where I grew up, woven with cherished memories of leisurely walks with my grandmother during my childhood. It is a quaint place adorned with hidden corners, intriguing details, and special moments that have remained etched in my memory.

For this series, I aimed to achieve a heightened level of realism. I made some photographs of various locations, using them as references for my illustrations. By employing this approach, I ensured that the illustrated images would be instantly recognizable to those familiar with the charming streets and colourful views of Izola.

Throughout the creation process, my focus shifted towards effectively communicating with colour, compositions and textures. I strived to capture the essence of Izola as I perceive it—a place that exudes warmth, tranquillity, character, and a rich history. Moreover, I sought to shine a spotlight on the subtle beauty found within small, perhaps unexpected moments.

It is my sincere hope that this series transports viewers to the heart of Izola, evoking a sense of familiarity, nostalgia, and appreciation for its unique charm.
